Marksman Indoor Range in South Houston

#1

Post by Tacomaman »

Just recently discovered the Marksman Indoor Range in South Houston. Have not stopped by to check it out though. I know it is old range and is inexpensive according to some old reviews. Has anyone shot there recently? If they do not have a good ventilation system I would chose not to go. Would rather pay a little more not to inhale gunpowder etc. Drove by this weekend and their front door was open and could hear the gunfire. Any thoughts???

Have not shot there in years but bought 2 of my guns there.
Been an institution in the City of South Houston for a long time.
Honestly cant remember how their ventilation was but dont remember noticing any issues that drew my attention.
Friendly and helpful staff last time I was in there a few years ago but with Best Shot near by and being a member of PSC I just have not made it back there.
I love the sound smell of jet fuel in the morning.
Fat thumbs + IPhone = errors, please forgive.

Thanks FL450. Appreciate the info. I am a PSC member as well. I have shot at several indoor ranges around town(Arm's Room, Athena, Memorial Shooting Center as well as Shiloh Shooting Range). These all are pretty clean. I live +20mi. from PSC. I just discovered Best Shot. Have driven by many times. Sign is hard to see. Looking forward to shooting there.

I haven't been there in years, but I don't think the ventilation was great 20 years ago. Hopefully it has improved.

That was the place I did my very first qualification back in 1977.

It was dark and smokey back then.

Will post an update on Marksman. Will probably go there tomorrow (4nov) since down here by Hobby airport with wife for her training. Will probably also go to Carters since it looks they open earlier than marksman

This is my fifth trying to post this. Using my phone this time.

Marksman is a pretty good range. 12 lanes. Some lanes have to use tape to hang targets. Others have clamps. Decent size waiting area if you need to wait. Staff was courteous. 8 dollar fee after filling out newbie paperwork. Don't know about rental weapons or shooting long guns. All in all a good place to go and use up your stockpile of ammo

(As a plug.... If anyone likes aviation, the 1940 Terminal Museum has a wide selection of both general and commercial aviation history)

Thanks RetNavy for the report. What about the air quality ? Do they have good quality ventilation(HEPA FILTRATION)?
The price is sure enough cheap.

When I first entered the lanes could smell the gun powder. Also could hear the ventilation running through the muffs. To me it seems the ventilation was working pretty good. Think it's a good place to shoot at

I haven't been there in awhile, but it's where my wife qualified and took the class for her CHL.

Very nice people, and a great place to take primary instruction, too.

I should also point out that last time I was there at least, ladies shoot for free on Mondays. Don't take my word for that tho, call ahead.
