While working in Convent, LA, a friend (firearms freakazoid like me), told me that the Ascension Parish Sheriff Dept range is open to the public from 2-6 pm Thursday afternoons. Two of us went yesterday and a Lt. Babin welcomed us and let us shoot our carry weapons for FREE! Just stopped at Wally World off Siegen Lane and bought a few boxes of WWB. They let you shoot on 100 yard rifle range, but have target stands you can put wherever you want. You must shoot sitting at a bench. They provide the targets. Pick up your brass when finished.

Take the Hwy 30 exit from I-10 East (Going to New Orleans) and go right on 30. Turn left onto S. St. Landry Ave and turn left into the rnge. If you pass the water tower on the right you went too far.
