FBI just released rather chilling video of Alexis prowling around building hallways carrying his shotgun. No violence depicted, but chilling nonetheless.

It's on the front page of NPR's site (http://www.npr.org) and likely all over the place.

Remington 870. From the looks of it, the home defense model with extended magazine tube, 18" barrel and synthetic stock. He cut the butt of the stock off, leaving just the hand grip so it was short.

Would cutting the stock off make it less than 26"? Or would cutting off the stock convert the shotgun to an "other" weapon regardless of length, thus making it illegal with out paying the tax. So in other words did he have an illegal weapon?

Seems to be enjoying himself on the video.

So sad.

Anyone hear he had free reign for an hour and 10 minutes?! I'm shocked!!
If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you carry a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

Hadn't heard that. If they were activity searching for him in the building and he was moving that could make sense though. During an active shooter you move quickly to the sound of gun fire and this results in the suspect being taken down quickly. When the firing stops and you don't know where the suspect is it turns into a building search which is slower and methodical. If there is additional gun fire it will speed it up.

In an hour he could have ditched the weapons, changed clothes, and walked out of there. Same for the Kenya mall if they didn't want to be martyrs. Yet.
