unarmed teenager shot and killed in DC

A teenage (race not reported, junior high school photo not available at this time) attempted to rob the suspect (race not reported) on the street with a shotgun. The suspect stole the gun from the teenager and then the unarmed teenager was shot and killed by the suspect. The suspect remained at the scene and admitted his role in the teens death to police officers.

At this time it is unknown whether the suspect will be charged by the District Attorney with murder or manslaughter in the killing of the unarmed teenager, and/or whether he will be also be charged with the more serious crime of possession of an unregistered gun.

So possession of an unregistered gun is a higher crime than manslaughter or murder?

now if this happened in Washington state there would be the charge of not doing a background check when the gun was transferred from the criminal to the suspect

Probably. I can remember a time when the penalty for illegally taking a deer was higher than "involuntary manslaughter" (really second degree manslaughter) in NY State. Back in the late 60s they finally upgraded Manslaughter 2 to a C Felony from a misdemeanor.

Only if you're not a felon.

Excellent point. I should have initially realized that. Seems DC needs to strengthen their laws, they have a gun transfer loophole.
