Two NYPD officers Ambushed in Brooklyn

Disturbing event...

"Two New York City police officers were shot as they sat in their patrol car in Brooklyn, police said. The ambush took place about 3 p.m. in the borough's Bedford Stuyvesant neighborhood, according to preliminary reports. A lone gunman walked up to the vehicle parked outside the the Tompkins Houses, near Myrtle and Tompkins avenues, and started "pumping bullets" into it, the New York Post reports." City Councilman Robert Cornegy, who represents Crowns Heights and Bedford Stuyvesant, said the officers were patrolling public housing complexes as part of the program, DNA Info reports. "They were just a presence, they weren't over-policing," he said, according to the news site. "They were here as a presence to make the community feel safer."
NYPD said one officer died and the second is in critical condition. At least one of the cops was shot in the head.

I received a notification through my CNN app, and it said that 2 NYPD officers were shot and killed abush-style. Alleged shoot dead of self-inflicted gunshot wound.
New York (CNN) -- Two New York City police officers were shot and killed ambush-style Saturday as they sat in their patrol car in Brooklyn, according to two law enforcement sources.

Both officers were shot in the head, one of the sources said. Few other details were available.

They had been rushed to a hospital in critical condition, said police spokesman Sgt. Lee Jones.

The alleged shooter was found dead in a nearby subway station from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a law enforcement official.

The shooting occurred near Myrtle and Tompkins avenues in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn

Trying to picture how one shooter shoots two officers sitting in a patrol car in the middle of winter (windows up?) in the head. Then shoots himself after making his way to the subway. More to the story?

I hate things like this... I hope my wife doesn't see this one. She was always worried about me whenever we had a rash of local police killings, one of which was similar to this. I would like to see 3/4 suburbans with a duramax diesel, boasting a bullet proof areas around officers, though the back seats don't need it, spare the weight. ;-) I sure would like to know, if somebody took a crack shot off me while I was driving, that I wouldn't be hopeless. I'm also tired of seeing cruisers riddled with holes. At least reinforce the two doors and windshields for officers, I think it would be worth the expense.

Walk up next to cruiser, point gun, pull trigger repeatedly. Say using a glock against two unknowing victims sitting side by side, I can't imagine it's the hardest shoot in the world. It's not the first instance of this, though some cop haters might refuse to believe it. :???:

Sounds like the PD needs bullet resistant glass for patrol cars.

Every PD does, I've never been a place where I've seen bulletproof/resistant glass. I remember seeing some with ballistic barrier inside the door panel of crown vic's, but I haven't seen stuff like that in years.

What's really sad is I know of a few small departments who cannot afford bullet proof vests for their officers. I know there has to be a grant to get vests.

This is just terrible. The only good part is he killed himself. If only a far larger percentage of scum would be equally obliging.

Can't imagine a LEO not having a vest.

I hope Di Blasio, Sharpton, and the rest of Social Justice, Inc. are proud of themselves.

Maybe you can help me out but I don't understand how they're responsible for a fugitive ambushing officers and then killing himself.
