South Carolina Officer Is Charged With Murder of Walter Scott

***Warning Graphic Violence***

“When you’re wrong, you’re wrong,” Mayor Keith Summey said during the news conference. “And if you make a bad decision, don’t care if you’re behind the shield or just a citizen on the street, you have to live by that decision.”

That looks pretty cut and dry.

It never ceases to amaze me how there's almost always someone nearby to record a video of these incidents.

Only when the officer is clearly at fault. Apparently no cameras recorded anything in Ferguson (where all the evidence presented told the story that the shooting was fully justified - but a video might have clearly disproven a lot of the lies we've heard about 'hands up, don't shoot').

I watched the press conference this morning
its horrible a person was killed by the officer......HOWEVER
it seems to me that lots of things bad keep happening when persons run from the police.
this guy was pulled over for a traffic stop and then it escalated to a man running and then being killed....what caused this to happen? hopefully we get to hear the officers recording at the traffic stop

tragic

i could see the taser cables... isn't odd to the camera person just happened to be THERE?

Odd? I don't think so. In these times, there is always somebody around with a smartphone just itching to get a viral video and their 15 minutes of fame.

I would say it's fortunate. The guy who took the video was interviewed on NBC tonight. He was walking to work when he witnessed a confrontation between Scott and the police, and so he began shooting the video.

In the video, the officer walks back to where he shot from, picks something up, then walks back to the body and drops it. Also, in the police report he wrote that they gave CPR to Scott. It's clear that never happened. This looks very bad for the officer, and I'm not surprised that he has been charged with murder. The video will make his defense very tough.

I feel pretty sure that we'll be hearing "how it should not have happened" from DOJ Holder, Sharpton, Bohama, and others in the very near future. Just stand by.

I wasn't aware that there were sound recordings of the interaction. The officer wasn't wearing a body camera, apparently.

Watching the video, a kid's taunt popped into my head... " I'll give a five second head start..." Not saying that's what happened, but what I thought when I watched the video for the first time.

As far as the bystander just happening to be in the right place at the right time, I know with absolute conviction that there were people who had begun videotaping officer/citizen interactions in Fort Worth any time they happened and they happened to be close by, and that was in 2000 when I left MedStar (I know because I (my crew and/or firefighters) had been videotaped by "concerned citizens" twice, who had made a complaint that our interaction with a potential patients was not on the up-and-up, and though both times we were cleared of anywrongdoing, it became obvious to a lot of us that such interactions were going to be recorded for posterity more and more. And the only surprise is that it doesn't happen more often.

BTW-last time I looked at the Texas Penal Codes, running from the po-po was not classified as a capitol crime.

ABTW - I probably sound anti-cop in the above, to some. Nothing could be further from the truth. I did that job, for a while, as an Air Force Security Police at McChord AFB, Wa, and in Vietnam. I've worked as a Police Department communications operator for Fort Worth PD and another suburban department. I have very close friends that are police, and I work with our School Resource Officer /Denton Co Sherrif Deputies often during a school year because of the kids that are assigned to the lab that I coordinate.

I learned a long time ago that is a job I didn't feel up to doing, but I totally respect the person that decides to heed the calling to law enforcement ( and it definitely is a calling! ). That said, police are human, with all that entails. There are good ones, there are good ones who have a spectacularly "bad day", and there are the police that will lie, not just a little fudging of the truth, or presenting a story so that they come out in a better light than they otherwise would have, and then there are those that will purposely do something they know is wrong in a pre-meditated fashion. Luckily, my direct involvement in something like that has been relatively rare, but there are those cops, those darned human beings, that will abuse the trust we put in them, and let us/society down big time. For them, there should be aspecial place in prison.

The video was going around work today (LEO agency). General consensus among us is "hang him out to dry."

We don't appreciate thugs in among the apples.

watch them all again
and what strikes odd
is
if the guy was pulled over for a taillight...the police had his address and such when they ran his plate
if the guy jumped out and ran away, and then gets tazered..and keeps running.
stop you already have his car and address, go get a warrant or others..
i hope the policeman's dash cam and any other recording device he had gets released. to many unanswered questions

just plain old weird
but having visited the fine city and surrounding areas each time i caught a ship.....i wouldn't walk unarmed anywhere in the greater Charleston area

police have a hard job....maybe this guy just brain farted or there is surely more to it then a bystanders video

Not always true though unless he had already gotten his DL or ID from him. Car might of been stolen, not registered to him or just never know at the time. I know they stated he had a warrant for unpaid child support but not sure if that was found out afterwards or not. Sad situation all the way around, sad he felt the need to run as if he could get away, also sad that the officer felt the need or threatened enough to shoot. I hate speaking without knowing everything but to me there was no way he could of felt threatened. You do see what ever was thrown then he turns to run. It's as if he is barely running, I'm in horrible shape and could of chased him down and not sure but looks as if he ran 25 ft or more before the officer started shooting. Just bad all the way around and so many going to have a field day with this, saying all the other shooting were probably same way just wasn't filmed.
