Austin man found not guilty in downtown shoving death

Background:
Accused groper dies after fight in downtown Austin

I remember when this happened, and I thought there was a thread on it here somewhere, but I cannot find it if there is.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A judge has found an Austin man not guilty in the death of a man who he shoved outside a bar along West Sixth Street two years ago.

Carlton followed Summers out of the Dogwood Bar after he learned Summers had allegedly touched his wife as well as several other women inside the bar.

When Carlton caught up to Summers he said "he shoved Summers in the chest with both hands. Summers fell backwards and his head struck the ground."

...Summers died from his injuries a few days later.

The judge said Thursday that when you lay your hands on another person, you must accept the consequences — adding that applies to both Summers and Carlton.

The second link has a couple similar stories that had different outcomes. This sounds like it was a bench trial and the judge was sympathetic to the defendant. I wonder if a jury would have been as sympathetic.

I'm glad he was found not guilty.
