Mistook SUV for Uber, knocked on window. Younger guy not elderly.

Punched once in face. Died in hospital. From Miami in town for a wedding that was earlier that night.

The SUV driver did not do himself any favors by fleeing and not contacting police. Would be a different story if he had stayed at scene and said the punchee was trying to break into his vehicle.

It's not even certain he tapped on the window. His brother said he "probably" tapped on the window. Even if he did, that's hardly justification for an assault. The driver who committed the deadly assault apparently wasn't too worried if he rolled down the window in order to deliver the deadly blow.

Again, this is an excellent example of why leaving the scene without contacting the police might be a really bad idea. People are assuming all kinds of things that are actually not in evidence yet. From the stories I have been able to find, there is no witness or video that shows what actually happened. Maybe the police holding something back, but so far no evidence that he was actually punched, no evidence that he tapped (or pounded?)on the window, no evidence that the driver of the SUV rolled down his window, got out of his car, or even just simply drove away leaving the deceased to fall to the pavement on his own. The police suggest that the deceased may have been drunk. It may be that he started an argument with the driver of the SUV and things went bad. Certainly there are enough stories of otherwise sane people Getting a few drinks under their belt and doing stupid things that get them shot, like breaking into the wrong house.

But since the driver of the SUV ran off, there’s no one to tell his side of the story to the police and to the newspapers

Uber driver dies after fight with passenger. Passenger riding with four others objected to the cost of the ride. The Uber driver said if he didn’t like the fare he could get out. That’s when the fight started.

No mention of gun or knives.

Has civility just died in America.

A ride in Uber sharing with four others has got to be cheap. Maybe getting cheap rides anywhere has become an entitlement.
