Guns of course very difficult to own, impossible to legally carry in France.

Gunman not identified of course.

"Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said the gunman was known to security services, and the local prefecture said he had previously been identified as a danger to security. "

Why was he walking around loose?

3 dead 12 wounded. Says Automatic rifle. Got in a fire fight with soldiers patrolling the city, was wounded and then jumped in a cab and escaped.

France is so safe without guns that soldiers patrol the streets to keep the people safe.

Although not reported in this story conservative US television said this morning the shooter shouted the familiar الله أكبر words.

Apparently, they also think you shouldn't arrest or infringe upon someone's right just because of who they associate with and what they think. Have to wait until an actual crime is committed before something can be done. As some believe, justjoining a gang or terrorist organization is not sufficient reason to infringe upon one's rights.

The real issue is that people won't simply admit that Islam is a religion of evil and hate.

If he was a known danger to security, he was more than just a member of some group.
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.

Maybe the French need to hire Americans to handle their security full-time?
