The article says the nutcase was wearing a 'tactical vest' & a helmet. It's not clear if 'tactical vest' = 'body armor'.

The article also says the nutcase may have had a malfunction, which may have limited the casualty count. I'm wondering if the off duty Border Patrol agent's rounds may have came quickly enough to prevent the attack from progressing, & if possibly a round or two hit the idiots weapon causing damage/malfunction. Just an early morning pontification on my part.

There is a concerted effort in the media and on college campuses to normalize anti-Semitism under the guise of anti-Zionism. It is time to rachet up the efforts to combat this heinous situation.

Kid studying to be a nurse up and decides to 1) commit arson on a mosque, and 2) shoot up a synagogue. This sounds like an ego driven copy-cat rather then someone with actual political beliefs/agenda. I wonder if we're going to hear in the coming days that he's been on the same kinds of anti-depressants that some of the previous mass shooters were on?

The rabbi credits the Aibishter - the Almighty - with performing a miracle in limiting the devastation at the Chabad shul - the synagogue in Poway, CA.

Rabbi Goldstein was just emerging from the bathroom where he went to wash and prepare for the Passover Yizkor service - a memorial for deceased close relatives performed four times a year - when he encountered the murderer. It is customary for those with two living parents to leave the sanctuary at this time, so the foyer of the synagogue was crowded with children and young adults.

Rabbi Goldstein emerged just as Lori Gilbert-Kaye fell to the ground, dead. He grabbed the muzzle of the killer’s rifle and was shot - the rabbi lost two fingers. The gun jammed. An off-duty police officer who was in the shul to say Yizkor, grabbed the rifle. The killer ran out of the building. The officer chased him and managed to shoot his vehicle. The killer was apprehended by local police minutes later.

The rabbi shepherded children and congregants to a safe space. There he spoke to them from his heart, urging them to be proud Jews, grateful to live in a country that protects our religious freedom. We will not be cowed, and we will search for the hidden light that will emerge from this tragedy. Then he was taken to the hospital, and endured hours of surgery on his hands.

On a news program later, Rabbi Goldstein reported that Lori was a founding member of the shul, his dear friend and supporter for 30 years, a true Aishes Chayil - woman of valor - who was always there for others.

The rabbi’s sister Toby reflected that but for the rabbi’s action the killer might have easily slaughtered many more Jews in the foyer. He is a hero.

May God bless Rabbi Goldstein, the officer who helped him, all the officers who apprehended the murderer, and every person who stands up against Jew-hatred in our great nation.

The rabbi asks us to perform deeds of kindness now, to create light out of this darkness. Please heed his call. And let’s say Amen.”
