Parking lot (HB 681) bill was referred to Business and Industry committee today. I think this is a different committee than heard it in 2007 and 2009 (think that was Public Safety).

Current Committee Status (as I see it) is below. Assuming the TSRA endorsed candidates vote for the bill, we have an excellent chance of getting this through the House this session. 78 members of the house are authors/coauthors.
Chair:
Rep. Joe Deshotel (Author/coauthor)
Vice Chair:
Rep. Rob Orr (Author/coauthor)
Members:
Rep. Dwayne Bohac (Author/coauthor)
Rep. John Garza
Rep. Helen Giddings
Rep. Sid Miller (TSRA endorsed candidate)
Rep. Chente Quintanilla (TSRA endorsed candidate)
Rep. Burt R. Solomons (Author/coauthor)
Rep. Paul Workman (TSRA endorsed candidate)
I believe the Calendar's committee is also in great shape (6 author/coauthor out of 13 Reps), and of the remaining 7, 2 are endorsed by TSRA.

IT WORKED
Rep. Paul Workman (my rep) from Austin and Rep. Sid Miller signed on as co-authors TODAY--2-23-11.
I called Rep. Workman on the 15th and followed up with an email to get him to sign on. I didn't know at the time that he was on the committee getting the bill. I was going to call today and renew my request to sign, when I got an Action email from TSRA. In checking before I called, I discovered that these two had signed on. We now have seven members of a nine member committee signed on as co-authors.
The pressure from TSRA and the subsequent calls from constituents has worked.
If you are not a member of TSRA, sign up and get the action alert emails to work as a force multiplier for your individual efforts to affect the changes we want.
