DIM Holster OWB Custom Leather Tooled

DIM (Did it myself) Holster.

So I just recently got into leatherworks. I've always loved handtooled leather and usually always bought something I really liked, but one day (about two weeks ago), I set out to make my own stuff. Well, I've made a sheath for a knife and a pocket holster (pretty simple), and now this OWB holster.

It really came about there not being a lot of options in holsters for this M&P BG380.

So I drew up the design on a piece of paper and then transferred it to the leather and starting cutting and stamping away. It has great retention and while I know this holster isn't perfect, I did notice some things once finished that I can improve on, I'm very happy and proud of this piece.

Very Nice! You mind sharing where you purchased the leather and patterns? As a kid I had a Tandy leather working kit and really enjoyed working with it. However, I never made anything near that nice looking.

I've purchased leather from http://www.distantdrumsonline.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. Right now in my early stages it's affordable and pretty decent quality rawhide from what I can tell. You can also find them ebay and sell small pieces that are great for practicing. As for the patterns, I don't have a definite source perse. I sort of use my own design based off something I've seen. meaning I freehand but then add some of my own elements. Hopefully, one day I'll just be able to whip up my own design straight out of my head, but for now but for now they are coming out pretty deceent. Right now, I just doodle my own designs on small note pad and if it flows then I'll keep for reference later and if not I just chunk it.

Also, sometimes right before I cut into the leather I always have a small practice piece and cut or tool that first before I do the real piece. all depends how confident I feel on a tooling a certain pattern.
