Need help deciding on type of OWB holster
I've never carried OWB, but now I'm looking to get a new OWB holster. Should I go paddle, or belt? I'm also thinking of IDPA at some point, so in the summer I may be wearing shorts. Would paddle be better since it is compatible with both shorts and pants?

Re: Need help deciding on type of OWB holster
Well, let me say that everyone has a "Holster Drawer."
It would be personal preference, but the belt version is (IMO) the most secure. I also think them more comfortable.
No one wants to pull the pistol and have your holster come with it.
I wear shorts and a OTB Slide holster for my XD-SC.

My preference is on the belt. There's so many great holsters out there, just shop around and find what works for you.

I'll add a vote for belt carry. Check the offerings from Tucker. http://www.tuckergunleather.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

It's fine if you disagree. I can't force you to be correct.

A pistol without a round chambered is an expensive paper weight.

I like the paddle. It goes on and comes off without unthreading the belt through the loops.
I find them very comfortable. I have two Kramer Leather MSP horsehide holsters.
I can carry OWB with my shirt tail covering the gun and holster.

Re: Need help deciding on type of OWB holster
My favorite holster is a Hidden Hybrid M1 for my Sig P938 that I wear OWB on an Ares Gear Ranger belt and I could not be happier with the setup. I wear jean shorts and an un-tucked button front shirt which hides the weapon very well. Before I bought a good weapon belt I was not as happy with the holster. A good belt makes a world of difference. The main inconvenience of this set up is the inconvenience experienced when moving the holster from one pair of pants to another.
My alternate holster is the Springfield Armory OWB paddle holster that came with the XDM 45 compact. Granted it is not the best paddle holster, but nonetheless, it is less comfortable and has more movement than the HHH M1. I'm holding off on replacing the paddle holster until I decide between a Goshen HexSite and a Trijicon RMR.
Best of luck with your search. Take your time or you too will end up with a drawer filled with holsters.

Agreed, I have several and they fit and last. They came pretty tight but within a week of use the fit gets close to perfect.tomtexan wrote:DM Bullard.

I have the Bodyguard. An excellent holster.

I like both Raven Concealment and Bravo Concealment Holsters (I do not care for the fact that they sponsor Cory and Erika though). FYI check out the vid on kydex paddle holsters.

Re: Need help deciding on type of OWB holster
Personally I really like my K-Rounds belt holster. It's not that expensive (about $65 last time I checked) and it is great quality. I have been wearing my M&P9 almost everyday since July 2014 and it works out so great that my wife uses one as well.
P.S. I wear a The Wilderness Instructor belt with it, as well as a Crossbreed leather. Both work fantastically as well.

Re: Need help deciding on type of OWB holster
Why not both? You'll encounter situations where one is more useful than the other. I have a good belt holster for my LC9, but I also keep a paddle and pocket holster for times when the situation suits their use better.
But having a good belt is ALWAYS a good idea....even with shorts.

Re: Need help deciding on type of OWB holster
Reading through the topic makes it clear. Most end up having a bunch of holsters of different kind and style. I have not really heard of anybody with the perfect solution. Giving advise is one way to share information about a personal preference.
At one point in time you'll have a box full of holsters like I do.
At one point you may prefer one or the other in your box of holsters.
Then you may hear of a better solution and buy it. Especially when you come home and the current, preferred holster bothers you.
Some on this forum have good advise but then there is the price question.
In my personal opinion, experience is the best method to find out for sure and that may get you a box of holstrers as well.
Once you have a box of holsters you are just like many others owning a box of holsters.
I have a box of 24 holsters and I am pretty sure there is a better solution.
