I used to have the AR-536, which is the 5x version of that optic, otherwise same/same. It was a pretty decent optic for what it was, and at that price point. But in the end, I gritted my teeth, clenched my butt, and sprung for a 4x32 Trijicon ACOG. I’ve never regretted it. My motivation was twofold: the first being that the ACOG is just plain rugged and combat proven....they’re built like a tank; and the second being that I didn’t want to be dependent on a battery for the illumination of the reticle. The ACOG has both a tritium element and a fiberoptic element. In fact, in bright sunlight, the reticle almost too bright. I learned from a marine friend to put a piece of electrical tape over the fiberoptic element, and then I can vary the light exposure reaching the reticle by changing the position of the tape.

But, the buy in is steep, and so people are not often willing to spend that kind of money on a scope for their first AR.

I like Leupold, Both of my telescopic sights and red dot sights are really accurate

The Annoyed Man wrote: Thu Jul 20, 2017 10:24 pm I'd second the Vortex 1-8x StrikeEagle as the minimum for the quality of that trigger. But I wouldn't bother spending more unless you're interested in shooting at really extended ranges.....like past 600 yards, which your carbine isn't really suited for anyway. The StrikeEagle's reticle subtends to 600 yards, so that's about perfect.
:iagree: I have this scope and my wife has the P223.

Priest,

It's been less than a year. The thread is still kickin' and apropos to many.

I stand by my sentiment.

Personally, I have the Burris 1x6: https://www.burrisoptics.com/scopes/rt- ... e-1-6x24mm and like it a lot.

The Trijicon is very tempting though, but I would get the Open horseshoe .308 ballistic reticle. This one: https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products ... -C-1600005

That’s a great scope. It’s also about double what I am will or can afford to pay for a scope. But, I have considered this one for my SCAR 17. It’s a 4x32 ACOG with a .308 reticle: https://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products ... ?pid=TA01B

FYI - A scope similar to that one is still for sale by a forum member. Its the compact version with a rise mount, but still very nice.

In case anyone was interested. :txflag:

I cannot buy as the wife has the spending for firearms on lockdown after spending about double this year what I did last year...
January 1st rolls around and that fund resets, right? lol

I got Burris’s “budget” Tac30 1-4x24mm scope for my AR and am very happy with it and with Burris’s customer service. I used and abused it at a 10K Run n Gun biathlon last month. In the process, it got scratched and banged up while climbing obstacles and crawling through two muddy steel culverts. The lenses got mud smeared while crawling through the mud, but I was still able to hit a 500 yard gong twice during the distance stage. In the end, I managed to lose a turret cap on the course, probably while I was crawling in the mud. When I asked Burris to sell me a spare cap, they offered instead to mail me a free one. Needless to say I was impressed!
