Thanks for the update K5GU! :tiphat:

This is the first bill(that I am aware of), that has reached Stage 4 of 7 in a bill becoming law. I'd be interested to know if any other gun related bills have reached this stage.

So did this one die in House Calendars as well? If so, that's pathetic. There should be absolutely nothing controversial about this one - it's merely providing an enforcement mechanism for existing law.

Not yet, it passed the Senate already, so I believe it has until May 27 to pass the House.

Other than that, the bill is the same as the one Sen Campbell introduced.
I'm actually good with the part highlighted above. All I really care is that the signs come down, and do so in a speedy fashion. No more stonewalling or dragging of feet by municipalities - they are given three days to address this, and then face potential consequences.

Sure, it may be that some future AG will not fight this battle for us, but I'd say that the current political climate in Texas (with no democrats elected to any statewide office), would cause the first few years to become a flurry of falling signs everywhere. Once the word gets out, then municipalities will think twice about re-posting in the future.

Besides, that's not the municipality's money being spent if they don't comply. It's the citizens' money. No need to waste it if not needed - if we're able to get the signs to come down.

I believe passage of this one is waiting to see if it needs to be amended for 30.07. I believe it can be brought to the House floor at any time.

Passed to 3rd reading. Wonder what that means for it being amended for 30.07. Think they might do it in 3rd reading?

If not, we might have to wait 2 years.

They might not hold the progress up waiting for the House to concur HB910, but I think the entities it effects will assume that if their 30.06 needs to be removed, that will also apply to the newer 30.07 later and those entities won't bother putting up a 30.07. Just a hunch.

Ahhh, correct. i forgot about that for the moment.

Guess we'll have to pull out our shirt, if necessary. ;-)

But perhaps the penalty for 30.06 will be enough incentive/reminder not to abuse 30.07?

I'm not sure I understand the 30.07 issue but this was a very necessary bill and I'm almost as happy to see it pass as I was open carry (almost!). I get furious every time I walk by Austin City Hall and see that 30.06 sign at the door.

Keep in mind this will go into effect on Sept 1, while 30.07 will not be valid until Jan 1, 2016. I don't know how many municipalities will take down 30.06, only to later post 30.07 signage knowing that it will be coming down in 2017. I guess there might be a few, but that seems pretty stupid. The best thing we can do is to notify them before Jan 1, so they will have to comply.
