77 yo Retired firefighter shoots and kills an armed robber who demanded his possessions in a parking garage. Head and chest shot.

Even though he has a valid gun ownership permit and a valid concealed hand gun permit, there will be an investigation into the shooting, rather than a medal or parade.

Small steps, but clearly better than 5 years ago regarding gun ownership.

City is still a cesspool of crime and villainy.

It will take 2-3 of these stories a weekend to flip things around, but it is refreshing to see that some people are willing to defend themselves and not die for the sake of letting a crook succeed.

I'd be willing to bet that the majority of the violence in Chicago is gang rather than crime related. I realize that one can be an extension of the other as gang members control their turf and rob anyone who dares to come in it. In the shootout the caused the public riff between Mayor Lighthead (xic) and the prosecutor, the attorney said it publicly. As long as those involved were shooting at each other, there would be no charges because it was "provoked." IMHO, Chicago will not be able to claim any progress until the gang areas are controlled and the mind sets within them not allowed to spill over into the rest of the city. I suspect that much of the shooting is about self-defense from the rival gangs and that a police presence in force will be needed to stop it. That is not going to happen.
