"[The attack] was pretty hard to fathom," [Goochland County Sheriff] Agnew said.

"It was a determined, planned, violent attack where he was relentless in his attempts to get into the house."

Agnew said Skinner was repeatedly warned by the homeowner that she had a gun but that didn't stop him.

Home invasions were unusual in Goochland and the attack was very rare, he said.

Skinner had flown from Auckland to Los Angeles before travelling to Virginia where he allegedly claimed he was a hitchhiker who needed help.

Agnew said he smashed a glass door to try to enter the home of the 14-year-old girl, who lives with her mother, father, and 18-year-old sister.

"All I can say is the manner in which he attempted to enter that home in the face of a firearm pointed at him and the implements we recovered from him - the only inference is that he had very bad intent," Agnew said.
Skinner was carrying pepper spray, duct tape, and a knife.

I don't think it's mom that will be needing a defense lawyer.

This sidebar article is amusing:

Troy Skinner travelled to a US community which was armed with guns
As opposed to communities armed with nerf bats, I suppose.

FOX BUTTERFIELD ALERT (emphasis added):
According to the NRA, Virginia residents may purchase firearms from any licensed Federal Firearms Licensee, even if they are out of state. It is also lawful to openly carry a handgun in the state.

Despite this, shootings are rare in the community ..."
Article also notes that mom was using a .22.

I thought I had seen it, but since I didn't find it in the Self-Defense Reports forum I assumed I had seen it on another forum website.

Seems like a good place for a 14-year-old girl to live, but perhaps I'm old fashioned.
