Normally I just post firearm-related self-defense stories, but this one is too good to pass up:
The scene unfolded on Moore Street in Dublin city when the would-be thief approached the American tourist and attempted to run off with his bag and cell phone.

...

Witnesses said the American, reportedly a “big man”, got a few digs in on the attempted thief before tying him to a nearby pole with camping rope. The American then phoned police as bystanders laughed at the man tied to the pole.
The Gardaí took the thief into custody, investigations continue.
