Investigators determined that Jaykwon Anthony-Leshaun Dickerson, 22, fired a shot in the direction of Marveno Marshawn Matthews, 34, who shot back in self-defense, according to police. Matthews' shot struck [Larry “Pepper”]Moore, which led to his death.

... The case is resolved [in favor of Matthews], as far as Kent County Prosecutor Chris Becker is concerned regarding a potential murder charge, ...
So Matthews is off the hook for shooting the wrong guy. But he does not get to Pass Go nor Collect $200.
Matthews was charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, illegally carrying a concealed weapon and tampering with evidence.
Oh, and the guy who shot at Matthews in the first place?
In November 2018, Dickerson was found guilty of assault with intent to murder and a handful of weapons charges. He is scheduled to be sentenced Jan. 15 and faces up to life in prison.

p.s. About the headline: If the target was unintended, he wasn't a target was he?
