Following the trends of ye old merry England. Ban guns, people use knives. Ban guns and knives, people use hammers. Ban guns, knives, hammers, screwdrivers, ice picks, socket wrenches, etc....people will use sticks, stones or whatever weapon they can get their hands on.
It's not a weapons control problem, but NYC (and other Democrat/progressive socialist enclaves) will continue to take away things from their law abiding citizens.

It would have been much better to have kept locking up dangerous mentally ill people for their own protection and for the safety and security of sane, law-abiding citizens.
The left lies about everything. Truth is a liberal value, and truth is a conservative value, but it has never been a left-wing value. People on the left say whatever advances their immediate agenda. Power is their moral lodestar; therefore, truth is always subservient to it. - Dennis Prager

What a gruesome way to die. Can't imagine the thought of hitting someone with a hammer to kill them.

Gun control is based on the theory the Americas were peaceful before Europeans arrived with guns.

Typical leftist response. Don't blame the hammer. Don't even blame the scum bag. Instead, have the police give his lawyer, the defense. Emotionally Disturbed.
If he had used a gun, the gun would have been the perpetrator. The scum bag would have been blameless, and if his emotions had been " Disturbed" then someone else should have done something to stop him, and more gun control laws would have " solved" the problem.

I guess now, background checks on hammers are in order, and closing the trade show loop hole so no one can just buy a hammer from an unlicensed vendor. Home Depot will now have to verify, that hammer sales are strictly regulated. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Would that include "Fully-Semi-Automatic" Hammers?

I miss the 80's, when the catchphrase was "Hammer, don't hurt 'em". :chldancing

and it's an illustrative example of how weapons are in the mind, objects are just tools.
