Fedex driver held up while delivering packages, handed over his wallet and keys, and then was shot in the abdomen by the robber. The driver, who has a license to carry, then shot the robber several times. Robber staggered away but was later found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at a hospital. A man found with the dead robber is being investigated as an accomplice. Fedex driver managed to drive away from the scene and found slumped over the wheel of his truck. He survives. So far.
A FedEx spokesperson would not reveal whether or not the company has a policy regarding its drivers being armed, saying only that, “The safety of our team members and service providers is a top priority and we are cooperating fully with the investigating authorities at this time.”
I will bet that handing over his wallet and keys was Fedex policy -- that still got him shot -- but defending himself from further harm was not.
