It will never happen. Only because California keeps moving left. But you're right that Texas will soon be farther left than California was 25 years ago. TINVOWOOT.
The people coming to Texas from California tend to be conservatives that can no longer stomach their home state.

Politely disagree based on Beto / Cruz results and the high number of liberals from California that have come to Texas (Travis County and Montgomery County) that followed their employers here. We are over-run with that faction in my neck of the woods.
Employees coming to Texas when they are transferred by their employees are small in number compared to the total population in Texas. The Cruz race results are not Californians voting; it was the result of huge amounts of money pouring in from out of Texas that got Texas Democrats to the polls in near record numbers.

Cruz and the Republicans party were taken by surprise and caught sleeping. Republicans should keep the Battle of San Jacinto in mind.

There is quite the mix of dems and conservatives moving to Kendall county from California and some northern states. We have more than our share that have moved here to get away from the high taxes and cost of living but many continue to push the same agendas and vote the same way they did before the arrived.

We are fortunate, the conservatives still outnumber the progressives considerably for the time being.

The issue Cruz faced was the out of state money and all the free press Beto got. I recall seeing more Alameel bumper stickers in the 2014 senate race than Beto bumper stickers in the 2018 race, but that is just my memory and could easily be wrong. I suspect that Beto's Senate run really wasn't about the senate either, I suspect it was to build him a name on the national scene for the 2020 presidential campaign and to get money into his coffers under the guise of the senate race so he has it available to build a foundation for his presidential run.

You can blame whatever you like but it doesn't change the fact Texas has already gone purple and is turning blue faster than Violet Beauregarde.

Considering geographic area alone, Texas is red. But factor in the high population density metropolitans (Houston, DFW, Austin, San Antonio) and the overall numbers are pushed towards blue. This is mostly from out of state unfluence IMO, just from my casual encounters. California and Northeastern states have inundated The Woodlands area (someone mentioned Montgomery county), I concur with this assessment. I also visit family in Austin quite frequently and a great majority of residents come from out of state.

With Pelosi and the Dems pushing for illegal voting rights, Texas could very well turn blue. It’s hard to argue with free stuff, which in turn could indirectly lead to the demise of Texas gun rights.

I'm quite confident I haven't heard that expression since I was in elementary school 40-45 years ago.

My input is from realtors who are selling homes to many of these folks coming to the Houston area. On what do you base your opinion?

The demise of permitless-carry has nothing to do with folks coming from California.

I suspect (pure conjecture), that these realtors are seeing conservative and conservative leaning Californians purchasing real estate in suburban and even rural areas. I would wager that a realtor who specializes in urban condos or apartments is seeing a different picture. Californians who are bringing their collectivist ideas with them will gravitate towards these densely populated areas. My conjecture is based on the trends in voting districts from recent election.

There is no question that Texas is trending to the left. The big question is: Are these "new" liberals home grown and indoctrinated in our school systems, specifically inner city schools? Or, are we importing a disproportionate number of left leaning individuals from other areas such as California, New York, Illinois?

You are right that the demise of permitless carry has nothing to do with these things and this is a definite derail, but it is something I openly wonder about.

That's possible. I didn't know Realtors had a way to determine how their clients actually vote, but that would be solid intel. How they actually vote is more accurate than basing opinions on their stated views, like how much the government should meddle in people's lives "for their own good" or "for the greater good" rather than allowing people to make their own choices how to spend their hard earned money.

It's an interesting intellectual question but I'm not sure it makes a real difference. We don't have any real power to stop either. We can home school our children to protect them from indoctrination in government school systems, and we should. That won't stop the state from the inexorable slide toward socialism, but even if we're too encumbered to escape, maybe our children can.
I prefer peace, but if trouble must come, let it be in my time that my children may know peace.
