Texas Gun Rights ???

#1

Post by 03Lightningrocks »

There is a group called Texas Gun Rights advertising on Facebook for donations. They say they are trying to obtain constitutional carry in Texas. Which I am greatly in favor of. Are they a legitimate group. I am considering making a donation. Thanks folks.

I'm sure someone else had firsthand info, but what you can get publicly is interesting. Starting at https://mycpa.cpa.state.tx.us/coa/ you find that they are an LLC filed in Texas in 2013, and the registration info shows a primary office location on S. Congress Ave. in Austin, which puts them in a small strip center with a Domino's Pizza, SoCo Nails Spa, and a UPS store. On the Texas taxable entity search, if you then click on the link for PIR (Public Information Report) you find that that the LLC is actually owned by the National Association for Gun Rights, Inc., in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Doing a similar public records search in Virginia you find that the National Association for Gun Rights, Inc., was formed in 2000, is a non-stock corporation, and it gives you the names and addresses of the corporation's president, secretary, treasurer, and one other director. Wikipedia article about the corporation here, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_ ... Gun_Rights, and the corporation's website here, https://nationalgunrights.org/. The NAGR has a mixed history of conflicts, both in doctrine and personality, with the NRA. The Second Amendment Foundation took NAGR president Dudley Brown to task here: https://www.saf.org/dudley-browns-despicable-deception/.

I got no answers other than that. May be on the up and up, but fundamentally not a Texas enterprise. Neither is the NRA. But the TSRA doesn't operate out of a strip mall office next to a SoCo Nails Spa.

Oh my! So much for that idea! Thanks for saving me a few bucks.

Something dawned on me and I went back to check. Remember I said that the primary operating office for Texas Gun Rights, LLC was on S. Congress Ave. in Austin, in a small strip center with a Domino's Pizza, SoCo Nails Spa, and a UPS store? It was the fact there was a UPS store there that bothered me.

Turns out Texas Gun Rights has no brick and mortar presence at all. The address of the UPS store is 2407 S. Congress Ave., Ste E, Austin. The address for Texas Gun Rights, LLC is 2407 S. Congress Ave., Ste E126, Austin. It's a UPS P.O. box.

Still ain't sayin' they're not on the up and up. Lot of small businesses choose to use a P.O. box. But since the LLC was registered by NAGR, and NAGR reportedly pulls in around $12 million a year and could probably afford a Texas presence if they wanted one, my bet is that NAGR wants to look like there's a presence in Texas and the checks that are sent to that UPS P.O. box simply get forwarded back to NAGR.

Thanks for the update. After reading the links in your post I had decided not to send any money their way. TSRA and NRA are better options for us Texans. IMHO
