HB 930 - Duty to Retreat, Civil Affirmative Defense for Home Invasion

Majorly pro-criminal bill.

Imposes a duty to retreat if a "reasonable person" would have done likewise, unless you are in your own home experiencing a home invasion.

Currently, Texans have civil immunity across the board if it is legally justifiable use of force or deadly force. This bill would remove that and provide only Civil Affirmative Defense in a home invasion scenario.

This needs to never see the light of day in a committee.

Someone authors a bill like this every session. Last session, Royce West put one out that even required a duty to retreat in your own home.

I have already written my reps on this and any similar bills. I doubt this will see the light of day, but we have to remain vigilant.

Treating one variety of person as better or worse than others by accident of birth is morally indefensible.
