Instructor's Cert Renewal

#1

Post by sjfcontrol »

Does DPS notify us about scheduling the instructor's renewal class this summer? Or are we supposed to take the initiative? When can that take place? If I recall correctly, the instructor's renewal class is a shortened version of the original class, right?

EVERYBODY who has a current cert must renew this year. (Or to be more precise, everybody's certs expire 12/31/2011).

Supposedly.... we don't go back to Austin to renew instructor certs anymore. We do it online.

At the instructor's class in May, Sgt. Bamsch and I were having a conversation about this subject, he told me they had not worked the details out about this but they were looking at either having the instructors qualify each other or, if they could find enough ranges, doing regional qualifications.

Or like said does DPS let us know we need to attend? This is my first renewal little confused.... :confused5

Ahh, that's for the 2009 class. Most likely not applicable to the 2011 class due to changes in procedures.

Well , I emailed DPS today with my question...

I`m up for my first renewal this year and I`m curious on how this works.

Will I get something in mail or email letting me know when I need to start this process.

Need to know what location where this will be going on and dates if possible.

Thank you

and this is the response I got .....

Sorry for the inconvenience but, is too early in time to have a response in regards of the renewal certificates that would expire at the end of 2011.

The department awaits this information also from our training department, but probably it’ll not happen until the middle of this year sometime.

Thank you

I e-mailed Sgt. Bamsch today Happy New Year,

A question posted on the Texas CHL Forum prompts this question. When will the online renewal process for instructors start and how will the range portion be handled?

Thanks,

Graves M. Jones, Jr.

Here's his answer.

"Mr. Jones,

An instructor who is expiring in 2011 will receive notification from the department in late January or early February regarding the renewal on their certification. When they receive the notification letter they then will need to complete a renewal application and then will be able to go online and take the test. As far as the proficiency portion goes that has to be a management call. Right now the Department is not requiring proficiency to be taken, but that could change within the next couple of months.

I hope this answers your questions.

Wow! An answer that actually attempts to answer the question, and is readable and understandable to boot! If DPS keeps this up they're going to ruin their reputation! :smilelol5:

(AH! Just noticed that it was from Sgt. Bamsch -- not DPS itself. That answers a lot!)

So, all that is required is for us to go online and take the test, which is currently identical to the student test.

How are all the instructors who don't follow the TexasCHLForum supposed to get the 2011 legislative updates?
