#1

Post by Jim101 »

In October, Billed as the biggest in the U.S......Suppose to be 4,000 tables, looks like a weekend trip..Now, can we buy from dealers since we are a boardering State? I know we/anyone can buy from private dealers, I was just wondering about regular dealers..

Thanks,

Jim

You can buy long guns, but not handguns.

Thanks for asking - I was wondering the same thing myself. I was planning to attend, but since I'm not really interested in acquiring a long gun, I'm not sure if I'm going to make it or not. It would still be fun to walk around and see all the guns, but it's hard to justify the trip if I'm leaving empty handed.

Could you have them ship it to a FFL in Texas?

Yes, but you gotta get a heck of a deal on a handgun to make it worthwhile after you cover shipping and FFL transfer fees.

Thanks for the replies, but, the best deals may be from private collectors, or deals on ammo.....Three of us are going, and we will be spending the weekend...

Well, you go, have a good time, and buy lots to make up for those of us who can't go. As for me, I might just wander over to the Will Rogers show in Ft Worth on Sunday.
Not as big, but lots closer to home, and I am less likely to spend all my money!

Unless you live in Oklahoma, DO NOT BUY FROM A PRIVATE SELLER!!!! Legally, you cannot buy a gun from a private seller (someone who is not an FFL-holder) outside the state in which you reside.

Yup, really! Why not? It's against the law. Any opinions? How about this one:
BATFE FAQ wrote:B. UNLICENSED PERSONS

(B1) To whom may an unlicensed person transfer firearms under the GCA? [Back]

A person may sell a firearm to an unlicensed resident of his State, if he does not know or have reasonable cause to believe the person is prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under Federal law. A person may loan or rent a firearm to a resident of any State for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes, if he does not know or have reasonable cause to believe the person is prohibited from receiving or possessing firearms under Federal law. A person may sell or transfer a firearm to a licensee in any State. However, a firearm other than a curio or relic may not be transferred interstate to a licensed collector.

(B2) From whom may an unlicensed person acquire a firearm under the GCA? [Back]

A person may only acquire a firearm within the person’s own State, except that he or she may purchase or otherwise acquire a rifle or shotgun, in person, at a licensee's premises in any State, provided the sale complies with State laws applicable in the State of sale and the State where the purchaser resides. A person may borrow or rent a firearm in any State for temporary use for lawful sporting purposes.

Thanks for the information. So, that means that all the Private Collectors selling at the show are from the OK. area?

If they're not breaking the law, yes. And you can bet your bottom dollar the BATFE will be there conducting sting operations to try and bust sellers and buyers who are making illegal transfers. Don't do try it! Stick to buying a long gun from an FFL and you'll be OK

Seeing as how I live less than 10 minutes from the Oklahoma border you can only imagine how tempting it is to break the law when I see a deal at a show across the river or an ad in the paper! I've also seen a seller at an across the river show who I KNOW lives in TX and is not an FFL. Some will risk it, but I value my freedom and gun rights to much to risk a felony conviction.
