Majority of the signatures are not even Texas residents! What good is this?

who cares if they get your email. Email addresses are easy to get and free. I have one that I use for situations like this. Plus the spam filter on Gmail, at least for me, is pretty good.

Is it legal to open carry on your own property?

Yes, your own property and/or property under your control.

Re: Petition to Allow Open Carry in Texas
I wonder how many of the people who signed onto this actually live in a State where open carry is allowed as the majority of them do not live in Texas? I signed on to OpenCarry.org initially and after seeing their antics tried to have my name removed to no avail. Personally I want the people outside of Texas to keep their nose out of this issue, the only exception would be the NRA.

I have open carried for years........ in uniform. It ain't that much fun. Your situational awareness has to be twice what it normally is and people notice you.
If you want to be noticed wear clown makeup.
If open carry ever passes in Texas it won't bother me, but I really think it is much ado about nothing.

Re: Petition to Allow Open Carry in Texas
The biggest advantage to open carry being legal is there is less of a problem if you somehow accidently expose your gun. Cover garment rides or blows up - that kind of stuff. Only remember it happening once and no one saw or made any comment.
I use to live where you could open carry if you had a license to carry a handgun. Only time I ever did was when I was taking my dog for a walk in the woods, going hunting or fishing, that type of stuff. Otherwise I much preferred to keep it concealed even in the situations such as above unless the temperatures were just too high.

Re: Petition to Allow Open Carry in Texas
I am pretty new at this but even if open carry was allowed I would conceal just my thing.

3)Keep fingers off the trigger until ready to shoot. 4)Be sure of your target and backstop.

Re: Petition to Allow Open Carry in Texas
I think I commented on one of these threads some time ago, but I think I would open carry in rural settings and conceal in urban settings...whatever would be appropriate to the situation.

Re: Petition to Allow Open Carry in Texas
I'd like for open carry to be legal in Texas.
I don't think an online petition, signed by a bunch of out of state folks is going to mean much.
If you're interested in making it a priority, join TSRA and NRA and let them know you want them to work for it here in Texas.
Personally, I want campus carry more than I want open carry, so that is my number one stated goal anytime I talk to those who work for us in Austin.

Re: Petition to Allow Open Carry in Texas
Personally feel open carry is silly and juvenile. Incidental exposure of your legal CC isn't a crime in Texas - threatening and brandishing is. Making a best effort to conceal and having it accidentally exposed may get a LEO sicced on you, but if legally licensed to carry it's not going anywhere. In any case, don't really care one way ot the other about public open carry in Texas.
I recently, in a crowded restuarant, had a waitress behind me put her hands on my waist (kinda like a line dance so crowded) and CC weapon, gave me a knowing look and seated us.
