KEL-TEC SUB-2000 SAFETY RECALL NOTICE

#1

Post by Flightmare »

https://recalls.keltecweapons.com/
This recall only affects a portion of SUB‐2000s that were manufactured in 2017.

All costs associated with the recall of your firearm shall be covered by Kel‐Tec.
You can input your serial number to see if your's is one of the affected rifles. If you don't want to "enter" your serial number, the list of affected is available.

Thanks. Mine not affected.

Wow, I hadn't seen this. Thanks much for the heads up. Checked my number and I'm in the clear so we're good to go.

Found that mine is one being recalled last night. Now to strip accessories and box it up for shipping...

From the Kel-Tec link:

"We have recently identified an issue with the heat treatment of certain steel tubes received from a third‐party supplier from which the barrels for a limited number of Kel‐Tec SUB‐2000 rifles were manufactured. This could potentially cause the barrel to rupture when a cartridge is fired and could result in serious personal injury. The safety of our customers is our primary concern, so Kel‐Tec has voluntarily initiated this recall because of the possibility of a barrel rupturing."

n5wmk,

Thank you for the information.

I wonder, not so much the 3rd parties name as it's nationality...?

Given a dearth of response, my guess is: Chinese, but most are reluctant to say so.

Ever wonder how many other gun mfgs are using chinese products...?

Abraham: I honestly do not know. I did searches and could not even find the names of ANY of the suppliers.

I don't know if it is China but years ago I sold custom electrical wires built to my specs for the medical industry. I went to wire manufacturers everywhere in the US and they produced junk wires, not to spec. I couldn't find anyone to make them here but Hong Kong made superb wires to spec at an excellent price. I agree there is Harbor Freight quality and Snap-On quality but not everything from the Orient is junk. FYI only and not a gun related issue. And not sold on Facebook.

rotor,

Right you are.

Much of my stuff from furniture to optics are Chinese mfg.

And, I might add, very high quality.

Ye olde buy American is a good policy when the quality is there, but just because it's American made doesn't automatically equate to acceptable quality standards.

However, when the Chinese slip up in quality, it's often seriously off...
