The NRA Says It’s in Deep Financial Trouble, May Be ‘Unable to Exist’

The National Rifle Association warns that it is in grave financial jeopardy, according to a recent court filing obtained by Rolling Stone, and that it could soon “be unable to exist… or pursue its advocacy mission.”
The NRA did not respond to a request for more detail about its financial distress, but its most recent financial disclosure also shows it overspent by nearly $46 million in 2016.

You beat me to it. Given that it is Rollingstone doing the reportage, I speculate that they stretched some “facts” with an unprofessional amount of glee. Hopefully, Charles will be able to set us straight.

The story is based on filings in the lawsuit between the NRA and New York in which the NRA is claiming irreparable harm from the blacklisting effort of the agencies in New York controlling the banking and insurance industry. The injury claimed by the NRA is the type that would support the injunctive relief they are seeking from the court since New York's actions shall "imminently deprive the NRA of basic bank-depository services, corporate insurance coverage, and other financial services essential to the NRA’s corporate existence and its advocacy mission."

Without such a claim, or at least the possibility of such imjury, the NRA would not be able to seek injunctive relief.

Seems the State of New York is trying to put them out of business, so they have sued.

Hope they win and the New York taxpayers get hit hard.

Don’t elect those people.

Just wish they had a better Republican choice in the Ocasio-Cortez congressional seat this November.

Rolling Stone? :smilelol5: :smilelol5: :smilelol5: :smilelol5: :smilelol5:

It's not surprising that the quoted publication would use lawsuit posturing as the basis for a hit-piece on their favorite boogeyman. What is really sad, though, is how folks on our side won't be able to see this for what it is & will be all to willing to pile on with their own form of NRA bashing. The gun community is all too willing to eat our own.

I wasn't necessarily referring to people in this forum. I've seen reference to this "story" on other boards & the immediate reaction was less of a wait & see.

"& the immediate reaction was less of a wait & see."

O.K., then what was the reaction as I don't clearly understand your message.

Would you please elaborate?

Thanks.

Agreed. Best not to comment on a matter where you could possibly be called as a witness. Trial lawyers love to "mine" social media for material. Don't mean to sound paranoid but there are "eyes watching us."

Posts on other sites ran along the lines of "maybe they'll slow down on their calls & mailings" and "now they'll quit giving away cheap trinkets for membership sign up".

TexasCajun,

OK, thanks.

My comprehension is such that I don't believe a word from the source it came from, therefore I see this NRA story as fake news. A leftist effort to sow discord among gun owners.

Yes, I 'could' be wrong, but I doubt it.
