Nominate a 357 target shooter

#1

Post by Beiruty »

I have 0 revolvers, but I would like to remedy that condition. I want a target 357 shooter with an amazing trigger.

I don't know if this fits your bill but you might want to take a look at the S&W R8 revolver (out of the custom shop). I have one of those and it is very accurate. 8 shot cylinder that is set up for moon clips, light rail, rail for a red dot, very nice trigger and a 5 inch barrel (that has always seemed to be the perfect length for a 357 to me). If you are ever on the south side of Houston, I would be glad to take you to PSC and let you try it.

S&W 327 TRR8 for the Custom Performance Shop. It is a blast to shoot. It also has removable rails. One on top for red dots and one on bottom for white lights or lasers.

Please go check Jerry M . he has utube video for just about every 357 rev in the book. He has some pointers on trigger return for DA shooting
I missed seeing him at The Arlington Sportsman club a fews years back. in The early 1970's I watched Bill Jordan shoot asprin tablets of the table.
He was a site to see.
his book No Second place winner is on the net as a pdf
Fast and fancy Revolver shooting by Ed McGivern ( 5 shots in the outline of a playing in 2/5' of a second)
(5 clay pidgons in the air at the same time at the central Montana fair.9/4/1933
He favored S&W's

Jerry he shoots all of them but his records are mostly with S&W.

I like the S&W revolvers but shop carefully as many people complain that the barrels are not aligned properly.

I have 2 S&W 686's in different barrel lengths, a S&W Model 19 (For which I have a matching Model 29 .44mag)... I love my 19, but would love to have a Python.

I had a 686 several years ago, with a four inch barrel. At 25 yard DA I still got consistent 1-1/2" groups.
I needed money and sold it, I guess because I was too proud to become a Chippendale dancer...
Yeah, let's go with too proud.

This will upset some but Ruger makes the nicer factory revolver these days. And they are still overbuilt and can handle anything. The new S&W revolvers have the key lock which I just can’t get over. The performance center S&W revolvers are the nicest factory custom tho. If you can find a non key lock I’d go with them.

a pre-lock S&W 686, 625, or 610 with a bbl in the 5-6" range. And yes, I know the last two are NOT .357's

My Smith and Wesson 686 .357 magnum on double-action is quite sweet---almost no take-up/creep when you squeeze the trigger.
Honestly, however, I hate the .357 magnum round. Way too loud for my ears--even with good hearing protection on so I usually shoot .38 special wad-cutters in it when I take it to the range.
Please know and follow the rules of firearms safety.
