Problem With 1911 Grip Screws

I have a Colt Lightweight Commander. It has the regular flat head screws. I know during range times on several occasions they have came loose. I have checked them from time to time and just now they were loose without any range time.

Is there anything I can do other than loctite? I really don’t want to loctite the grip screws.

I use Hex head screws with a very small amount of blue Loctite. They stay firm but are very easily removed.

Any of the hard materials- like G-10 or aluminum, etc. require o-rings. Most wood has a certain amount of springiness, which is why they usually hold. (except a few ofthe hardwoods without beveled holes) Amazingly you can just put 2-3 lbs of pressure and an o-ring holds fine but 10-15 lbs of pressure w/o o-rings and they loosen the first shot or bump of a holstered gun.

Years ago I bought a 100 pk for $6 and am on the first or second set per gun. (and I remove grips and detail clean them pretty regularly) I haven't had a loose grip screw since I bought them. Just found the old info and checked- price is almost same:

Thanks for the help. When I ready Andy’s post I remember having the O’ rings from the past. Going through my 1911 box I found them. I hope this solves the problem.

I have no ideal when I bought these O’ rings, but I am glad I kept them. Input them on my Commander and on my TRP just in case.

I had the same thought when I read your post... my bag of o-rings is in the bottom of my cleaning supply box... I assumed I would go through them with some regularity but if you don't over tighten them, they rarely split.
