Loaded magazine went for a wash!

I was carrying one day and at the end of the day, I forgot to empty my pocket of my extra magazine I was carrying. :???: It went through the full wash!

My question is, should I get rid of the 9mm ammo and if so how? Also, the magazine should be fine, right?

This was my factory magazine for my Taurus G2s.

Go to the range and use the laundered ammo for practice. Function check the magazine while you are there.

Just don't be surprised when a few suds come out with the bullet.

A big soap bubble comes out of the barrel with each round and floats away. A new kind of tracer ammo. :biggrinjester:

A barrel wash with every round fired.

I think a "squib" happens when the gun powder doesn't have enough power to push the bullet out the end of the barrel. The result is that the barrel is now plugged like a pipe bomb when the next round is fired. I have also seen videos of people banging a dowel down the barrel to un-stick a squib that is molded in there.

Guess I'd rather not play "Is this one a squib?" My disposal standard for ammo is "Any Reason to Doubt." Recently laundered == a reason to doubt.

YMMV.

I wouldn't shoot them. The couple of dollars at most for the ammo is not worth the risk of a plugged barrel. You can take them apart with a vise and a pair of vise grips. Just twist the bullet and pull it out of the cartridge.

At least it'll be a clean shot. (Someone had to do it)

Did that with a .357 Magnum speed strip a couple years ago. Ammo was Remington Golden Sabers, advertised to be sealed at the case mouth. All six rounds performed as expected at the next range session. Gives me a little more confidence that they’re reliable in inclement conditions.

What brand ammo did you launder?

Assuming this is brand name factory ammo, out of an abundance of caution I would not use the ammo for SD, but I would shoot it at the range.

I would lightly oil the metal parts of the magazine too.

A few years ago I took three types of 9mm ammo, one top line SD (I think it was Speer), a middle range, and a box of the cheapest 9mm that I used for range and plinking (Blazer aluminum-cased).

I divided each lot of ammo into three groups (10 rounds in each group IIRC), and then soaked them in 3 kinds of oil, including Kroil penetrating oil), for a week. They were completely submerged and rode around in the tool box of my pickup truck in Texas Sun for the week.

I wiped them off and fired them one at a time from my Kahr P9 and not a single round malfunctioned. I doubt water, even in the washing machine, is more penetrative than any of the oils I used.

I did get some blue smoke shooting them tho. ;-)

Ah, a 2-stroke handgun! Did it sound like a bumblebee in a beer can?

Sadly no, I loaded them one at time in case I got a squib. If had loaded all 30 in my Glock 33 round magazine and cranked them out as fast as I could go, I would have had an enormous blue cloud, that's for sure. Not sure bout the bumblebee sound tho. :smilelol5:

The ammo was Winchester, HPs, the regular ones you buy at Walmart. Nothing fancy. Lol

At least it wasn't sent for cleaning and hot iron press.
