You might want to look at the Dan Wesson Valkyrie. It is commander length on the barrel but officer length on the grip. Frame is aluminum. A very well build pistol that is extremely accurate. I bought myself one in 45 ACP for Christmas. Have put the 500 rounds through it with no issues. Weighs 28 ounces so it is a nice weight for carry. You will feel the extra recoil that comes with the lighter weight but if you shoot a 45 you won't mind it. I run Tripp magazines in this pistol (as well as all of my 1911s). I have both the 7 round (normal length for this pistol) and the 8 round (normal length for a full size 1911 but are slightly extended for the officer length). Shop around as the prices vary. I got mine on Buds for $1065.00. Others have it for this give or take a few.
