Superintendent leaves gun in restroom

Other than the obvious error of leaving a gun, the article states that he open carried at school. Or maybe I'm reading it wrong or, quite possibly, reported wrong. Even with permission I thought you had to still had to carry concealed. Or did I make that up?

Says both he and the principal open carried. So I suspect it was in a holster that he removed

Still safest school in the US.

I don't remember exactly what the laws are, but they were in place before open carry, and therefore it's possible that there is no distinction. The board sets the policy. If the board says the superintendent and principal can open carry, then I suppose they can.
I believe "campus carry" for college campuses is concealed only, and limited to licensees.

I'm glad the school is protected by two men carrying weapons, but concerned about the superintendent's lackadaisical safety concerns, awareness and attitude.
His comment seems especially strange and extremely concerning to me.

I did the same thing but it was my bathroom at home and I only went as far as my recliner to discover it happened.

Or as our vice president might have expressed it: "There is nothing to be concerned about other than the obvious. And that is obvious to all of us because it is obvious every day. And every day we will continue to address the obvious, as we have been doing, because it is the right thing to do. This administration, like you, is concerned."

That may be where I'm blurring the two together, college vs. Pre-K-12. I haven't had the time yet to go back over all the law and changes.

I'm not as concerned as to the legality of "open carry" versus "concealed carry" as I am about the gentleman leaving the gun accessible to children.

There is absolutely no excuse for that!

It's fortunate that the 3rd grader was properly trained (probably at home) and reported the gun to a teacher without touching it.
