WHY WAS IT OUT OF THE HOLSTER???
If you are going to unload it, UNLOAD IT!
Dropped the mag but didn't clear the chamber

No excuse for that. Why should he keep his job?

:iagree: And it was not an “accident” it was negligent.

Just guessing, but it sounds like he was attempting to disassemble a striker fired handgun that had no safety and required pulling the trigger for disassembly. While there is no excuses for not emptying and inspecting the chamber, some guns are safer than others.

Imagine the press wording if it were one of us mere citizens who did that...

the officer, whose name was not released, was inside his office and was inspecting his department-issued weapon when it went off

would be reported as "NRA card carrying, homicidal, GOP supporting right wing nut, threatens hundreds of school children in a unconfirmed, mass shooting attempt gone wrong. "
the officer had removed the magazine, but failed to eject the round from the chamber. "One round of ammunition was fired, ricocheted off the concrete floor and disintegrated,"
The word disintegrated would have been replaced with a long description of the damage to the floor, building, walls, etc. and a discussion of the costs to repair, counseling for the kids, etc.

There is only 1 or 2 acceptable reasons to unholster in a school- cleaning and inspection aren't on that list.

:iagree:

There have been too many instances of LEO doing this. Do they not have time at home to clean and/or inspect their gun? Do they not have enough to keep them busy? Glad no one was hurt, but it could have been a very bad situation, if the bullet had not struck the floor and disentergrated.

If he had succeeded in disassembling his pistol and at that very time an active shooting started where would he have been and what could he have done? I wonder why he would even attempt to disassemble his firearm at work?

My pistol is only coming out of the holster when I am not at home or the gun range for one reason.

I forgot, we had the dancing FBI agent, shooting someone at a club, after he did a back flip, and lost his gun.

It just went off when he picked it up from the floor.
