I have a Reloading Question ??
I've been reloading since I was 13, i'm 60 now, i've always gone strictly by the reloading data, BUT do to current supply issues, Can you substitute large rifle magnum primers for standard primers and if so how much reduction of powder charge do you do to compensate for more potent primers?

Re: I have a Reloading Question ??
short answer: maybe.
longer answer: It depends; need more info:
calibre(s) ? answer might be different for 30-30 in a Win94, vs 458Win
bullets: lead/jacketed/coated?
powder(s) being used?

Re: I have a Reloading Question ??
Magnum primers typically are a bit hotter then standard (though not all). You should be alright as long as you are not loading at the top of the load data. Even then I would drop charge weight about 10% and work back up.
I have switched between magnum and standard primers and have not experienced any difficulties but YMMV. Drop the charge weight down some and work back up better to be safe then sorry. You may also find slightly better grouping as you are using ball powder and the magnum primer should burn better.

Thanks for your input, when it comes to rolling your own, better safe than sorry! I'm shooting a sporterized 1917 Enfield Eddystone and I know it has a really strong Action but why take unnecessary chances!

Drop 2grains and you would be good. If you want to be more accurate, do a ladder test in 0.3gr until bolt lift resistance is detected and then drop 1gr
