I was processing some 45 ACP brass yesterday and ran across this Speer 45 ACP. I was pressing out primers (I remove primers before cleaning) and this one would not go in right. Once I took a closer look I found out why (this is actually a nickel case but it is hard to see):
45 ACP "Brass" that was not formed right...

Maybe some case bulge? It doesn't seem to taper above the rim at the same angle as the other. Saw it in half!

Re: 45 ACP "Brass" that was not formed right...
The case is the exact same size as a 45 ACP, it is hard to see from the pics but I put a normal case next to it. As far as I know I fired it, not sure when though since I have been saving brass for months. I think it just made it through Speer's quality control when it should have been pulled out, it did not make it through all steps of the forming process and was loaded that way.

Re: 45 ACP "Brass" that was not formed right...
I did a quick Google of narrow extractor groove 45 acp brass and found several references.
Seems that it's older brass and MAY NOT work in every type of 45 auto flawlessly.
Speer brass has always been a little different, I noticed a long time back that the ones I had have larger flash holes...They worked like a champ, but that was a flash hole, not an extractor groove that may give problems in some pistols??
Google it
