45-70 reload data help

Have a Marlin 1895 that I usually load up 400gr Speer FN bullets in.
Got some other bullets on sale at a good price.

Need some load data for Barnes X bullets 350gr flat base cannelured.

Any help is appreciated.

Dan;
You really need to go to Barnes web site for info.
Barnes bullets are not really compatible with most others.
Lee manual has load for a 300gr X, IMR 4198, 43gr and IMR 3031, 52gr, in .450 Marlin, I have found anything you can shoot in a .450 Marlin can be shot in a Handi Rifle or Ruger, may be just a bit hot for a Marlin LA, but probably ok.

Hey drinks,

I did try Barnes site. They want money to join before you can see the recipes.

I know this bullet isn't for this rifle, its pointed, and that don't work to well in a tubular magazine.

The cannelure is further up from the base of the bullet, about .170", and the sides of the bullet are longer than the typical bullets which would make for more friction going thru the barrel.

I was kinda hopping someone had a Barnes reloading manual to show what the loads are for this bullet.

After spending an hour checking out Barnes, I have decided I shall not patronize a company that is as unhelpful, arrogant and totally profit motivated as they are.
I am sorry you are stuck with some of their bullets, hope it has not cost you a lot of money.

It does kinda grate on me that they don't give out standard load data like everyone else in the business.

These bullets were regularly 25.50, and on sale for 11.99.

I got to looking a little closer at the 400gr speer bullets that I have loaded alot of, and it looks like the profile is the same, except for the barnes being pointed. I was sure thinking the 400gr was a little shorter for some reason.
So I think I'll be good to go using 350gr jacketed data.

Well, I loaded up 8 cases, 2 each of 45, 47, 49, and 51 grains of IMR 4198. Stepped out back and chronoed and had good results with all 8. No signs of over pressure. Shot freehand at 75' and had 2 in the 10 ring, 2 in the 9 ring, and 4 in the 8 ring.
