Poll: When should campaigning begin?

#1

Post by jason812 »

I'm already tired of hearing about the 2020 Presidential election. It started as soon as the 2016 election was over. I didn't like the 18 months of Republican campaigning before 2016 either. How many of you wish the politicians would actually do their jobs instead of constant campaigning and wait until the election year to do so?
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.

I too, get tired of the constant election cycle. There is the freedom of speech issues though. There is the Ted Cruz campaign. I believe that if he had earnestly started campaigning earlier the race wouldn't have been so close. Republicans need to get their message out.

6 Weeks before the election. All other spending can be on platform positions, not specific candidates. And no, companies do not have the right to free speech- only people.

I think candidates should be able to start campaigning as early as they like, but should resign from any other government jobs first. Dereliction of duty to their current office is proof positive they're not qualified for a higher office.

I like that idea.

After I posted this, I realized the irony. I'm tired of hearing about 2020 but then created a thread on the election. :banghead:

Me too!
Let's make it even easier on them... one term only for any office!

With the current system, if a politician wants to keep their job, they need to constantly be campaigning. Imagine if you had to re-interview for your current job every 2, 4, or 6 years against several other qualified candidates, and if any of them was able to impress your bosses more than you, they get the job and you are out on the street. You might spend a lot of time showing your bosses how great you are, depending of course on how much you want / need that job.

The better solution, IMHO, would be longer terms, but along with a one term limit for each office, and maybe a 2 term lifetime limit across all elected offices. That would get rid of the career politicians as well as the constant campaigning.
