Anyone shoot Texas Tacticals IDPA?

#1

Post by atxbandit »

Just wondering if anyone shoots the matches at Cedar Ridge. I went out a watched a match last month. Seemed like fun and most of the participents were friendly and answered my questions. I am planning on shooting at the match on the 24th.

I shot with them when they had a range near Austin that they regularly used, but I haven't been to the one in San Antonio (they lost access to the one closer to me). It was a good group of folks and certainly worth doing.

yep. I shoot with that crowd. good people. I know of 2 other members of the board that shoot there as well. I've shot a few matches, but I'm pretty far short of being a veteran. all the way since my first match, I've found the people there to be very friendly and helpful to the new shooter.

next time out, properly equipped and participating, I'm sure you're going to have a much better time.

I shoot with them a lot. Great group of shooters, and Mike always runs a good, challenging match. I highly recommend going.

Also, for the shootgun'ers, he usually has a shotgun side match after the IDPA match. Knocking down steel with a shotgun is fun. :)

Let me chime in with a big thumbs :thumbs2: UP!

As Fenster and AggieMM said, you will find good/fun stages, good people and it will make you a better shooter.

Check out his website at:
http://www.texastactical.net/

There is a lot of info there. The two primary things to keep in mind as you shoot there are:
1. Stay Safe
2. Have fun.

Round counts for five stages are just under 100 but bring 150 to make sure.

While on youtube looking at AggieMM videos you can also search for "texas tactical" idpa. Put texas tactical in quotes. There are a number of videos of recent matches. Come on in, the water's fine...if a bit warm this time of year.

I've looked at the website before. That got me interested and after going out and watching a match I decided to try it out. I will be at the match on the 24th. See ya there.

I too am going to try to make it out on the 24th. I haven't been there before, nor have I shot IDPA before...but after chatting with Mike I think it would be a good thing for me to do. More practical shooting scenarios.

I shot with them a number of times when they were shooting at Hill Country Rifle Range, but I guess they had a falling-out with Crazy Richard, the owner. Good group of folks - friendly to newcomers, always emphasized safety.

Well I shot the IDPA match today. I think I did alright. I didn't shoot any friendly targets. I did get a procedure penalty though. Was supposed to shoot 1-1-2-1-1 with only 6 rounds in mag but I messed up and shot 1-2-2-1-0, ran out of ammo. I reloaded and shot last shot but got penalty. I had fun though and will be back out next month.

Awesome! Welcome to your new addiction. I picked up about five procedurals during my first match. I continued at that rate for about four months :biggrinjester:

That was my first match. My times were pretty slow but I was trying to get all my shots on target. I also didn't want to hit any no shoots. I will be back. Need to order my reloading gear.

I was there for the first time on 9/28/08! It was great, I had alot of fun, I helped set up with Mike, David, and Tony. I was in Herb's group with Tony, he's crazy, Greg (the rabbit) and some other's. I shot 2 no shoots though, oops, some of those courses have the targets really close together that makes it more difficult.

It is definitely fun. I need to go back out but haven't had time. If all goes as planned I will be there on Oct 26th.
