What rules is the match being run under?

I have shot a little IDPA, but never shot in a 3-gun match and had a couple of questions. Looking at the rules, it appears that there are divisions for both open sights and scoped weapons. I have a M1 Garand that I would like to use. Would this be ok to use? Would it be competitive???

Also, what do most people use in the shotgun portion of the event? I only have an over & under and an old Ithica 20g auto. Would one of these work?

I am sure everyone got a good laugh at my questions! "rlol"

Anyone able to give me some advice? Even if I don't have the ideal gear, I would rather participate then just be a spectator.

Thanks! :thumbs2:

I will give what advice I can, I have never shot a three gun match yet either, But I have heard enough to recommend you will probably want more than 2 round from the shotgun.I am planning on going and having fun, and seeing how this game is played.

I hope I don't get hooked :txflag:

Speaking from memory, you can shoot your Garand, but will not be competitive with the ARs (reloading mostly, 30 round vs 8). You will also have to plan how to manage the stripper clips you will be using, some rifle stages can have 30 - 50 shots.

Ensure you have a holster that will hold your pistol secure while moving.

Shotguns: Probably the simplest shotgun you will see is a 5 shot 870. I shoot a Benelli M1 that holds 8. Some open class shooters will have 9 shot capacity with speedloaders. A two shot shotgun can be used but you will be reloading a bunch.

sskimber, if you do not bring your gear and shoot the match you will regret it.

Best advice bring what you have and have fun. You can always borrow a shotgun, I'll be there just find me.

If we have only pistol and rifle, is it possible to participate in what we can? My combat shotgun remains on the wish list.

Does the rifle need to have a sling?

Maybe someone could point me to the rules? Would this place be okay for getting my info?

That's an offer that's hard to refuse. I do have 12 ga ammo. If I can get a Saturday pass, I'll be there. They've been hard to come by lately though (both kids in soccer at different places at overlapping times means Daddy has a first job to do. ;-)).

I think if you mention IDPA in any context with PSC, it rains.
