February 2007 CHL Postal/PM match

#1

Post by j1132s »

****
**** First CHL Postal Match Course of Fire
**** This match starts 2/1/07 and ends 2/28/07
****

Required equipment:
1. Your primary carry gun (the gun you carry the most);
2. A 7 or 15 yard range;
3. 2 NRA B-2 targets;
4. 4 NRA B-3 targets;
5. 30 rounds of ammo
6. A clock with second hand (better with a shot timer or
countdown timer/stopwatch)

Targets are available here:
http://www.employees.org/~ctai/shoots/b-2.pdf
http://www.employees.org/~ctai/shoots/b-3.pdf
http://dotclue.org/targets
http://www.pistoleer.com/targets/handgun/

This match is divided into 2 divisions (based on target distance):
Junior – 7 yard targets
Senior – 15 yard targets

If you shot in senior division, all strings must be shot senior. Same
for junior. You can only enter in 1 division.

The gun you used must be your carry gun. If you have multiple
carry guns, please use the one you carry the most.

All strings are fired single handed. The non firing hand must hang on
your side (i.e. not supported, not in the pocket, not touching any
object), the non firing hand may not form a fist.

Starting position is pistol in shooting hand, low ready.

String 1:
1. NRA B-2 target at 15 yd (7 yd for junior)
2. Fire 5 shots, strong hand only, 1 minute time limit per shot

String 2:
1. NRA B-3 target at 15 yds (7 yds for junior)
2. Fire 5 shots, strong hand only, 20 seconds for string

String 3:
1. NRA B-3 target at 15 yds (7 yd for junior)
2. Fire 5 shots, strong hand only, 10 seconds for string

String 4,5, 6:
1. Repeat Strings 1,2,3 using weak hand only.

Scoring:
1. If the hole touches the higher scoring ring, the higher score is
taken. (note, this doesn't mean rips, just the holes.) A miss is
counted as “0’.

2. NRA B-3 targets has an "X" ring, which counts as 10 points. In
addition, if your shot touches the "X" ring (doesn't not need to be
completely inside the "X" ring), you get to count an "X". Put the
total "X" counts next to your score.

3. The submitted score should look like the example below. The
gun and ammo used is optional. PLEASE PM or email me your
score; do not post.

Example of score submission:
Name (or Forum handle): Jane Doe
Gun: Glock 19
Ammo: 9mm Winchester Ranger 125gr
Division: Senior
String 1: 42
String 2: 30-2x
String 3: 32-1x
String 4: 40
String 5: 27-0x
String 6: 15-0x

Miscellaneous:
1. If you would like to run the next month’s match please indicate
it in your PM. Note: Course of fire does not have to be the same
as this one; you are free to make up new rules, etc. for next month.

2. Submit as many scores as you like, but I will only count your last
submitted score. Submissions must happen before midnight 2/28.
All final scores will be PM’ed to all participants, and the division
winners will be announced and certificates awarded.

3. Ladies who participate and indicate on their score sheet as female
get to compete, in addition to the 2 divisions above, a Female Junior
and a Female Senior group. An additional certificate will be awarded
to the winner of each female group if that group’s winner is not the
corresponding division winner.

4. Since I’m running this match, I will not participate.

5. Please remember to PM me your scores and not post them.

6. If you are in doubt about if a hole touches a scoring ring or not,
we can play it like a friendly tennis game and give the points to the
opponent. I.e. count the lower point.

7. Please feel free to post/PM/email me or the group with any
questions that you may have.

Thank you for your interest, and I wish you good shooting.

Hmm, if I can get some time away from studying I'll participate.

Do these print out on a standard 8-1/2 X 11 sheet of paper? I have a couple B-2 targets and they don't look like they are quite the same as the printout.

Sorry, I have not actually printed out those targets and compared w/ the official targets; I just provided the links in for people w/o the official targets on hand. I think they print out on 8.5x11" paper, but I'll check them Monday.

Thanks for noticing the difference.

BTW, I should have enough B2/3 targets for the next Austin get together for those who wish to shoot the match.

I picked up a package of each, so if I make it to the next get-together, I can provide a few.
At least on my printer, the targets come out to be about 90% of actual size. I tried setting the printer to different configurations and couldn't do any better.

The targets are supposed to be 10 1/2" x 12" according to that last link provided above. Try legal-size paper and print landscape, then trim 2 inches off the side so it won't so look off-center.

Edited to add: Not legal-size. It would have to be ledger (11"x17") paper.

$3.99 per 20 +tx at Sportsman's Warehouse, that's less than a quarter apiece if you happen to be there anyway. Besides, my printer won't handle anything more than 8-1/2" wide. If you still want to print them out, they'd be good for practice but you're screwing yourself if you use for match... they are 10% smaller.

I'm going to do this today.

edit to add: Shot this course of fire this morning. My weak hand only shooting with my carry ammo was just sad.

Sorry about the late reply regarding targets.

http://www.employees.org/~ctai/shoots/b-2.pdf
http://www.employees.org/~ctai/shoots/b-3.pdf

I printed out the 2 pdf targets above and they look similar (actually, they look pretty much the _same_) to the official NRA targets that I have. So, feel free to use them.

Also, I have a bunch of official targets and will bring them to the next Austin get together for people who would like to shoot the match. So, if you are in Austin and plan on showing up 2/24, I'll have targets ready.
