So this is what our fearless Texas leader Perry had to say...

Gov. Rick Perry said state and local officials are trying to move more than 1.5 million people out of the storm's path, and said that despite the traffic snags, he was certain that anyone who wants to evacuate will be out of the Gulf Coast area before tropical storm winds begin to kick up at midmorning today.

"If you're in the storm's path, you need to git gone. You need to be on the road, moving out of the storm's path," he said. "Those few hardheaded ones out there who are going to ride this thing out, don't expect there to be a lot of support in those areas."

We just need to git gone. That's quite an evac plan that boy has.

I look at it this way. At least he is saying your own your own and he is telling you now. Only idiots stand in the path of a train.


I have never looked much to the government to take care of me and I do not want to find myself in a situation where I have to. Smart people will look after themselves if the government will just get out of the way and let them.

I here you. But then I saw San Antoine traffic backed up all the way to Katy. People parked off I-10 and Pin Oak and Mason road, outta gas. These people were looking out for themselves but didn't make it. What a mess. To many people depend on the main highways to get them through and it's just to much traffic. Of course the main roads are the easiest way to get some place. People need to plan a back road route to keep from clogging the main roads. But that requires planning beyond how our government plans things. What a mess.

The west side of Houston dodged another one.

We sheltered in place. (Near the intersection of I 610 / US 290). Never lost power and only lost internet for 3 hours.

The government doesn't want anyone to come back yet. Schools will probably be closed until Wednesday.

Based on the problems with the evacuation
If I had evacuated West, I wouldn't come back until I had a FULL tank and maybe a 5 gallon gas can.
AND
enough food and water for 24 hours on the road.
If I had evacuated East or North East, there is still a storm going on.


Just remember that tempers may be shorter on the way back.


While there have been some reports of looting, they have been isolated.

I'm not really sure that a looter deserves a burial, even in an unmarked grave. I tend to think along the lines of the body sloshing around in a back bayoo, till the large gators get hungry again.

I live between Dallas and Texarkana, deep in the country. If we get unfriendly visitors, they are in for a surprise. My home looks like a platoon of Marines stopped by and left their weapons. And everyone here is proficient with all of them. Well, except the cat, and we are working on that.
