Yep; agreed.

My first carry, I think I went to a Boot Barn. But, wow; I can't really remember. I do remember that my first CC was a Glock 26. Changed my mind about that after the first few weeks, though.
If it is to be based on stores that sell guns, ammo and are also chains, all that is left is the Academy Amble. :txflag:

So what about you, what was your first time carrying after getting your plastic like?
I don't remember where I carried first. But I do remember worrying about what to say to a DPS officer if I got stopped. I had heard differing opinions on what to say/ not say. But my first experience with them I just tried to be polite, and let them know that I was carrying. No problems, no hassle, no fear, no judgement.

I do remember where I open carried first. I went to a liquor store the first day it was legal carrying my 1974 S&W 28 that I bought new. The manager of the store came up to me with a big smile and said, "You're the first one."

I can’t remember the time I first carried prior to or after getting a Chl. I can remember the first time I open carried in town with my license. Sheriff was in the truck outside a best buy followed me back in. Lol. No I didn’t vote for him after that.

Wally World about 14 years ago, winter, carrying 1911 Para. As I'm walking into the store a guy in a wheelchair is right behind me, I'm thinking he's eye level with my gun and will see it. It's concealed with a winter jacket. I did the typical walk around, reaching for stuff on top shelf. I was a little nervous, now it's a different time, no need to conceal but I'd rather conceal. Don't want bad guys eyeballing me or angry Karen's flipping out. I never leave my front door without it, mowing the grass or checking the mail.

Heck, that was 57 years ago (1967) and it was card material with a blanks to be written in and a pre-printed license # on the bottom. The process was: Make an appointment with the Sheriff, went in and he asked a few questions, did a local records check (paper files), hand wrote the info on the card, signed it and said "hope you never need it". Took about 30 minutes. I had already purchased the gun (derringer). If I remember right the first place I carried was that evening at the factory where I worked. I was 18 and the location was central Pa. It was so much simpler before computers. I still have that license in my files.

ACADEMY - Figured it was the optimal choice for first time... Must have hiked my pants 20 times that trip.. Few days later Kohl's to get some shoes... I was so nervous bending over trying out different shoes.. I just knew I was going to send the store into a panic.... Nobody noticed... I started working at a local gun range about 2 weeks ago and we all open carry... I'm still not a open carry guy, but have stopped off at a few places after work with my shirt tucked in and my IWB and gun showing... MEH.. Nobody either has noticed or said anything...

C'mon man. Here's the deal, that was so long ago. Not AndyC long ago, but still circa 2002 sometime maybe in the Fall. I was probably Wally World, but no idea anymore.

Back in 2007, I did the Wally Walk as that was in vogue at the time. I had a new Sphinx AT-380 and a leather clip-on holster.
I made it a point to get a burger and fries at the McDonald's inside the store and then went up and down the aisles looking
for nothing in particular. I don't remember if I bought anything, but I passed the test and nobody suspected anything.

It was back in 2006, I did the wally walk I was packing a Ruger P95, I was worried about printing. and felt a little paranoid. My wife was with me and watching to see if anyone noticed me.

How things have changed. These days I carry a smaller gun. hardly ever print and I don't give a darn if I do. I always carry but haven't been to Wallyworld in years.

2014, HEB, I was very self-conscious about it. But nobody noticed anything, or cared if they did.
