Yes over cleaning can be bad for the AR15. I rememebr sitting for hour cleaning our rifles while in the MARINES. Boot camp was the worst, the rifles had to spotless to pass insection and that just bled over into the fleet. Once while getting ready for a CG inspection we suck our rifles into our showers for hot soapy water and simply green to get them clean enough for qtip inspection. I think alot of it was just playing mind games with us, but always keep them lubed snd they will n ot let you down.
