Gov. Spitzer Involved In A Prostitution Ring

#1

Post by CHL/LEO »

If I recall correctly - he is very anti-gun. I believe that when he was AG, New York became the first U.S. state to file a nuisance lawsuit against gun manufacturers.

(CNN) -- The New York Times on Monday reported that Gov. Eliot Spitzer has told senior administration officials that he was involved in a prostitution ring.

New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer has admitted involvement in a prostitution ring, The New York Times reports.

The paper's Web site cited an anonymous administration official and said the New York governor was meeting with his top aides and would be making a statement this afternoon.

"To say this is a shock is an understatement," said CNN senior legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin, who went to law school with Spitzer.

Spitzer served as New York's attorney general for eight years before being elected governor.

Time magazine named him "Crusader of the Year" during his two terms as New York attorney general.

Tabloids labeled him "Eliot Ness," after the hero in the crime drama "The Untouchables," because of his reputation for rooting out corruption, busting white-collar criminals and tackling organized crime.

He was also known for prosecuting several prostitution rings.

He also worked as an assistant district attorney in Manhattan and worked for three New York law firms after receiving his law degree from Harvard.

The first-term Democrat had been considered a rising star among his party.

Spitzer is married and has three daughters

You bet he's anti-gun:

There are a lot more, but this gives a good look at his stance on guns.

If he is so anti-gun, why is he named after a hunting bullet?

I do not think that he has been indicted; the press reports just indicated that he is associated with a prostitiution ring. Perhaps the subject line of this thread should be changed until such time as he is indicted (which he will not be). It sure is good, however, to see him get some of his own medicine. David G.

From what I read, he was a client, but they are trying to see if he was more deeply involved in the actual organization.

The problem with these folks is how hypocritical they are. This guy was the AG for the state and prosecuted organized crime and prostitution rings. Just goes to show that there is a big potential for corruption in the upper levels.

Fair enough - done. When the story first broke on CNN and FOX it led with "US Attorney announces Spitzer indictment" so that's what I went with. Like you said, he may never be indicted but his professional (and maybe his personal) life as he knew it is now over with. I don't even know if Bill Clinton could survive something like this.

A bunch of years ago I was giving a presentation as a representative of Bellcore, which was the equivalent of Bell Labs after the breakup of the Bell System. After my part introducing what was then a new and up and coming technology, Mr. Spitzer did a little thing about the utilization of the technology in law enforcement, decreasing response times for fingerprint and id searches, and sharing other information rapidly.

After meeting Mr. Spitzer and talking with him for a while, I told my wife that he seemed to me to be just another NY politician, crooked underneath with a polished exterior. I feel that my opinion has been vindicated.

Spitzer violated, among other things, the Mann Act, which made it illegal to transport someone across state lines for immoral purposes.

I would like to see him hung out to dry.

BTW, the technology was known as ISDN, and despite predictions of "killer technology status" it has been so rapidly outstripped by such things as DSL and two way cable, that most people these days hardly know what it was.

Makes me glad I left NY long ago.

It nevr ceasesto amaze me how many people that tend to put themselves in the position of champions of what is morally right and targeting so called heathens and law breakers always seem to get their fingers caught in the cookie jar,The look on his wifes face is priceless, and i bet everybody he ever pursued with a vengeance is smiling a little broader today.I personally don't see how he can stay in office if the charges are true and the evidence seem to point that way.

Why pay for it when there is so much of it walking around for free? Even Bill Clinton knows that much

Apparently Clinton has more charisma than Spitzer.

Prostitute In Eliot Spitzer Sex Scandal "Named"

#12

Post by CHL/LEO »

SKY News -- 03/13/2008

A call girl at the centre of a high-price prostitution scandal that engulfed New York's governor has been "identified" by a newspaper.

Father-of-three Eliot Spitzer resigned on Wednesday after claims he paid thousands of dollars for sex services.

The New York Times reported that the real name of the prostitute involved in the scandal - identified only as "Kristen" in court papers - was 22-year-old Ashley Alexandra Dupre from Manhattan.

Ms Dupre, who was allegedly hired for about $2,000, was quoted in the paper as saying: "I just don't want to be thought of as a monster. This has been a very difficult time. It is complicated."

Her MySpace pages tell of how she went from a broken home in New Jersey to a music career in the city. Click here to view her MySpace site.

She is thought to be a witness in a case against four people accused of operating the Emperors Club VIP prostitution ring.

Prosecutors said the ring employed more than 50 prostitutes, some flown in from London, who charged fees ranging from $1,000 to more than $5,500 per hour.

It is alleged Mr Spitzer hired Ms Dupre through the escort service and rendezvoused with her at the Mayflower Hotel in Washington on February 13.

Mr Spitzer stepped down amid threats of impeachment and media pressure.

He said: "The remorse I feel will always be with me. I am sorry I did not live up to what was expected of me."

The Democrat is a former New York state chief prosecutor who rose to prominence by investigating financial crime with a vigour that earned him the nickname Sheriff of Wall Street.

He also broke up prostitution rings as attorney general.
