One song that "speaks" to you

Thought this might be a fun off topic thread....

What song hits you every time you hear it and provokes an emotional response from you?

For mine, you might need a little background. My family is a farming family. I had relatives go through the Depression/Dust Bowl era in the Panhandle, and heard a lot of their stories growing up. I also spent my childhood working on my fathers or grandfathers farms, so everything about this song speaks to some experience I have or family story I have heard.

The lines that really get me:
Our parents had their hard times fifty years ago
When they stood out in these empty fields in dust as deep as snow

And all this trouble in our fields
If this rain can fall, these wounds can heal
They'll never take our native soil
This is one of those songs that reminds me of how hard my great grandparents, grandparents and parents worked to make it. It reminds me that no obstacle I face can really compare to the conditions they dealt with growing up and the incredible faith and patience it takes to farm for a living. It's a very bittersweet song for me, but one that I always love hearing.

So what song really speaks to y'all?

Edit: Took me a minute to figure out the youtube embedding. Got it fixed now.

I like "Real" by James Wesley. To me it kinda describes what really matters in life

I have 2 songs that seem to stick with me. I grew up with my parents playing rock n roll songs of the 50s, 60s & 70s in the house. One in particular has stuck with me throughout the years.

Imagine - John Lennon

Since I grew up a yankee, I was rarely exposed to country music. What I did hear was usually on shows like HeeHaw. When I moved out west, a roommate of mine introduced me to country music. One of the first modern songs I heard was Don't Take the Girl - Tim McGraw. It has stuck with me ever since. I really enjoy country music now but this is the song I go back to from time to time.

Dire Straits Sultans of Swing inspired me to pick up my first guitar. I love pickin'. I get goose bumps every time I hear it.

I have three that get me everytime.

The Greatest Commands - The soprano part is heaven on Earth. I hope that the last thing I hear on this earth is this part being sung by my wife. The angels will have to work hard to match her.

I am a Sheep - It is a great reminder that He is watching over us.

Last is maybe a little unlikely after these first two but it is Rod Stewart's Forever Young. I grew up with this song and it was always just alright. I heard it shortly before my oldest son got married and it hit me. I'm proud of my son and the man he has grown up to be be;,a wonderful husband and father and employee. And never to take away from his accomplishments, he is still my son and he will always be Forever Young.

Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man"

Jeff Healey Band "Angel Eyes" - I still wonder what the Hell my wife sees in me.

I'm a singer and guitar player, so it is hard to limit it to just one song.

"Amazing Grace" played on the bagpipes.

"Hurt" performed by Johnny Cash.

Mumford & Sons "Little Lion Man"

There are many others, but these are just a few I love.

It really is amazing how much better Johnny Cash's cover is compared to Nine Inch Nails' original, isn't it. I can't think of any other cover that so clearly shows how the original should've been done.

Tool - Parabola

Twirling round with this familiar parabol.
Spinning, weaving 'round each new experience.
Recognize this as a holy gift and
celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing.

This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality.
Embrace this moment.
Remember, we are eternal, all this pain is an illusion.

I agree, and I would chalk it up partly to talent, but more impotantly to the authenticity of the man.

"Front Porch Song" by REK
Reminds me of the year I spent at TAMU. I owned a singlewide trailer near Easterwood airport and lived with a couple other guys. My buddies and I had some good times 'til our parents got our grades. The park I rented my slot at was owned by an old widow woman who's late husband was a big game hunter. She had a very impessive game room.
