The 85 MPH speed limit recently OK'd on toll road SH130 will be the highest allowed speed limit in the US,
and will match I-15 in Utah & I-10 and I-20 in West Texas.

The new speed limit will go into effect on or before November 11, 2012.

That is such good news. If there was common sense, it would be accompanied by minimum speed limit of 70 MPH.

85 MPH is *not* dangerous in and of itself, but the speed differential could be if you have some idiot doing 50 mph in the left lane.

That's good to know. We avoid interstates when and wherever possible. We sure won't be traveling on this stretch of road either. Go get 'em, guys!

I remember when MOPAC in Austin had a posted minimum speed limit of 45 and a maximum of 55.

Ah, the good ol' days.

Wonder if it will still drop to 65 at Night like most other Texas roads/highways?

I thought the night-time speed limit drop was done away with a couple legislative sessions ago?

Anyway, 85 is good by me on that road. I use the already existing toll road around Austin unless I really have to be in the middle of Austin or it is very early on a weekend morning. There is a lot less traffic on it (I normally on have one or two cars within viewing distance, front or rear), and they raised the speed limit on it to 75 awhile back. Beats the heck out of trying to drive by the state capital area on I-35.

The new segment between Austin and Seguin will make the trip just that much better for me -- now I can bypass 123 and I-35 entirely. I agree that the speed is not the actual problem, it is congestion and differentials.

That's great that somebody finally realized people are paying the toll to get there faster.

No. There are no more "nighttime speeds" in Texas.

Very True! Now if the police would only ticket people going slow in the left lane instead of somebody going 90 ! :grumble They definitely cause more safety problems than speeders!

I dont get on the interstate much but I was on a stretch where it's 75 now just the other day. Only thing I saw was most people still driving about 70.

Truck sucks too much gas at 65-70 now, dont need to make it worse. But I like having the option.

Difference between fast and slow don't matter if people stay in the right lane when theyre not passing.
