Yeager in trouble yet again

#1

Post by AndyC » Fri Mar 04, 2016 5:00 pm

"During the recent (Feb 17-18) Tactical Response "Fighting Pistol" course near Sacramento, an instructor instructed the students to throw their pistols on the ground, then the instructor proceeded to stomp on the pistols to make some point along the lines of "these things aren't meant to be pretty, they're meant to be tools, so treat them as such". He then threw his own pistol onto the ground and stomped on it--resulting in a round being fired parallel to the line of students, into a student's truck, with a possible ricochet towards who-knows-what."
A negligent discharge did occur the morning of February 18th during Day 2 of a pistol course instructed by Tactical Response on Range 11 (200yrd Bay), outside of what we would considered the shooting area.

This incident was not reported to any of our range staff at the time. Our operations manager (Mike Calvo) was made aware of the incident via an email from a concerned member of the club with family that took the TR course. I was immediately informed and instructed Mr. Calvo to proceed with an investigation.

I have personally talked to several participants at the course and one eye witness that observed the incident from beginning to end at close proximity.

We will not bother going into the fine details of the incident but the Board of Directors of Folsom Shooting Club has determined that Tactical Response will no longer be allowed to conduct any type of training at Sacramento Valley Shooting Center. This is effective immediately. An official email notifying Tactical Response is being sent as I post this reply.

FSC appreciates all that reached out with first hand knowledge of the incident.

Sincerely,

Vu Pham

Reports that they might have had cameramen downrange to capture the incident on film are, at this time, unconfirmed ;)

Tsk tsk. We're not supposed to talk about God. It violates some people's constitutional right to not be offended.

While I understand the whole "it is a tool, not a piece of fine china" thing, taking a loaded gun, tossing it on the ground, then stomping on it is a [unintelligent donkey] thing to do.

If that is how a Yeager class kicks off, I cannot imagine what happens next.

I have heard of other instructors who give their student a blue gun or similar dummy pistol and actually train on what to do if a police officer says "Drop the gun". The intent is to learn to actually DROP the gun.

Stomping on it??? Geez.

Stomping on pistols?

Brilliant, just brilliant...

If this outfit offered to pay me to attend, I'd decline.

I don't know about y'all but first off I would never throw my gun on the ground intentionally. Secondly I would never stomp on it. Thirdly I'd never let anybody stomp on my gun! Yes it is a tool but I was always taught to take care of my tools that what they last a long time. I don't see where taking your 500$ + gun and treating it that way makes you cool. I've never liked this guys videos on YouTube or his philosophies. That was very irresponsible and people should be ware before attending one of his classes.

Doing the throwing and stomping couldn't possibly damage the expensive sights I have mounted could it?

(Not to mention the avoidable danger)

Throwing your firearm on the ground and stomping it is total idiocy.
Please know and follow the rules of firearms safety.

I have had my P-14 since 1995, it's showing years of use and I know a 1911 is a tough design, but I would NEVER throw it on the ground, no way would I have gone along with that part of the training
