I limited out, but the birds weren't pattering like normal, maybe it's due to dry weather. Morning hunt slow, and they stopped flying by 9:30. Birds started flying about 4:30 and there were a lot more of them.
I had a great time, looking forward to some grilled dove breast.

Saw ONE bird yesterday and he was about 50 yards away. Evening of 31 August saw about a dozen. Heard a lot of shooting over the ridge from my place, but I must live in a "Dove Free Zone." Maybe this evening will be better.

Nothing tastier than a fresh dove breast wrapped with bacon and jalapeno cooked on an open fire.

We got skunked, and we didn’t hear much shooting around us.

Estimate we saw 200+ white wings in Hill County, so we had our limit quickly, 2 per person.
Only able to bag 1 mourning dove, they just were not there. So we left Hill County. Went to Limestone county late morning, not much mourning dove there either.
Never had this problem in the central zone.

Didn't see any whitewing, in Erath County, lots of mourning, and ringnecks. Like I said, morning hunt, was very slow, which is unusual, for that area, but the evening hunt really picked up.

Saturday morning was slow in northern Ellis county. Brought four decent sized birds home. We will be trying another location later this week.

Opening day was slower for us in years past, but if I would have hit every bird I shot at, I would have had a limit. It would have taken a morning and evening hunt to get there though, where in previous years we could limit in the morning alone. I had 8 on the first day, and only 2 after the morning of the second day... came home after that. But still enjoyed the time spent with family and friends.
